Fundraising for Manchester Met's First Generation Scholarship Programme

Since its launch to schools and colleges in 2017, the First Generation Scholarship Programme has been about getting talented young people from less advantaged backgrounds across the North West, where over half of our undergraduate students come from, into university and onto a successful career path. The award-winning Programme delivers practical pre-entry support and application guidance to Year 12 and Year 13 students to help them access and transition to university, including residential and non-residential ‘University Taster’ sessions, and peer mentorship from students and alumni with similar life experience. Once enrolled with us here at Manchester Metropolitan, Scholars receive a cash bursary to help with living costs and expenses related to their course, as well as bespoke employability opportunities and ongoing support from our dedicated First Generation team. Through tailored on-course support, the Programme has an excellent track record in student retention; encouraging students to achieve their ambitions, successfully complete their studies, and be ready to make their mark after graduation.
