We are a group of 5 friends living in Bristol who all love to challenge ourselves and push ourselves to the limit. We are fundraising for 1625 independent People, a charity aiming to help youth homelessness in 16-25 year olds in Bristol and the South West of England. With all of us falling into this age range we all feel strongly about the cause and want to help as much as we can. 1625 Independent People does so much amazing work, including: - a partnership with LaunchPad which identified key areas affecting young people (affordability, quality of current housing) and uses modular construction (similar to shipping containers) for faster project completion without compromising on quality. For so many young people the cost of rent and accommodation is a huge barrier to moving away from homelessness and this project assists with that. - Offering maths and English courses and supporting young people into college education. They also set young people up with local training providers and also help them prepare for job interviews/help with application forms. - Also help with relationships with friends and family as well as teachers and social workers. 16-29 year olds are over two times more likely to report feeling lonely often or always than 70 year olds (9.8% of 16-29 year olds say they always or often lonely). 29% of young people who were supported by 1625 remain with their family through their Bristol Youth MAPS service preventing them from entering homeless pathway (as this is biggest cause is family disputes and disagreements) - So many other things such as budgeting and financial management help, assisting with physical and mental wellbeing offering mentoring and peer support. Overall we feel it is an amazing challenge for ourselves but also a great opportunity to give back to our local area and support those in need, we would be so grateful for anyone who can help us achieve our goal.
