As a team, we’re hoping to raise vital funds for Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group, who help and support residents and communities affected by Cancer across County Durham and Darlington. The charity offers a range of fantastic services, including information on issues affecting cancer patients, the opportunity to influence cancer services in the future, day trips, social events, meals, financial and grants advice as well as confidential and emotional support in a safe and friendly environment. When our Dad/Grandad was diagnosed with cancer, of course our world turned upside down. The overwhelming worry of caring for him amidst gruelling treatment was heightened by the logistical challenges of getting him to and from James Cook Hospital, 45 minutes away, five days a week for six weeks. The stress of juggling work, family commitments, and the emotional toll of the situation was immense. Thankfully, we were put in touch with the Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group. Their incredible, free transport service, provided by selfless volunteers, each affected by Cancer in some way, became a lifeline. Every day, a friendly face would collect Dad/Grandad, offering companionship and relieving our family of a huge burden. These journeys brought him joy and respite, and we’ll forever be grateful for the support they provided.
