Helping the homeland

We are a group of friends who play for the same football team. We are taking on the 3 peaks challenge for two reasons: because we love a challenge and also because we want to give back to our homeland. We are all Sri Lankan Tamils and we will be donating to LWMC (Living Word Missionary Church) which is a charity that supports access to healthcare for Tamils who are deprived of it. The lack of adequate healthcare infrastructure in Tamil Eelam has heavily affected healthcare delivery. Many hospitals and clinics in Tamil Eelam suffer from a lack of essential medical equipment, supplies, and qualified personnel, leading to substandard healthcare services. The money that we raise will help to fund medical equipment (e.g. Automatic BP Meter, Weighing Scale, Vitals Monitor, Blood sugar monitor, medications etc. that will allow doctors / healthcare staff perform general health check ups. We will need around £3,500 to house a temporary medical camp which will be used for non-communicable disease screening and health check ups, issue free basic medications and will refer patients to local hospitals if specialist care is required. This camp will typically see 250 to 400 patients a day which would be amazing in improving the access to the services for those who need it the most.
